Installation method of loose ring of plane thrust bearing

Plane thrust bearing mainly bears axial load in assembly, which is widely used. Although the installation operation of thrust bearing is relatively simple, errors often occur in actual maintenance, that is, the installation position of tight ring and loose ring of bearing is incorrect, resulting in the loss of function of bearing and rapid wear of journal. The figure shows that the tightening ring is installed on the end face of the stationary part, that is, it is incorrectly assembled.

The inner ring of the tightening ring is in transition fit with the shaft journal. When the shaft rotates, it drives the tightening ring and rubs with the end face of the stationary part. When subjected to the axial force (FX), the friction torque will be greater than the matching resistance torque of the inner diameter, resulting in the forced rotation of the tightening ring and the shaft mating surface and aggravating the wear of the shaft journal.

Therefore, pay attention to the following points during the installation of thrust bearing.

(1) Distinguish the tight ring and loose ring of the bearing (according to the inner diameter of the bearing, the hole diameter difference is 0.1 ~ 0.5mm).

(2) Distinguish the stationary parts of the mechanism (i.e. parts that do not move, mainly assembly parts).

(3) In any case, the loose ring of the bearing should always rest against the end face of the stationary part.

What is the working process of turbine thrust bearing?

The working surface and non working surface on both sides of the thrust disc installed on the main shaft are respectively provided with several thrust pads, and the back of the pads is provided with a pin hole. The back pad against this hole is arranged on the pin of the mounting ring, and the pad can rotate slightly around the pin.

The pin hole on the pad is set 7.54MM away from the center, so a wedge gap is formed between the thrust discs on the working surface of the pad. When the thrust disc rotates, the oil is squeezed in the wedge gap and the pressure increases, so this oil film has the ability to bear the axial thrust of the rotor.  The mounting ring is placed on the annular seat, and the oil enters the annular oil chamber around the main shaft through the throttling hole and flows radially between the pads. A spacious space is reserved between the tiles to facilitate the circulation of oil in the tiles.

The spherical seat of the thrust bearing is equipped with an oil return index oil ring, which surrounds the periphery of the thrust disc to form an annular oil return chamber. Two oil return holes are respectively set at the top of the oil return retaining ring on the working face and non working face, and the oil return volume can be adjusted by needle valve. An oil retaining ring is also installed between the thrust pad mounting ring and the thrust disc. The oil retaining ring surrounds the thrust pad to form an annular oil inlet chamber of the thrust bearing.
